On 9 October 2007, artist Yoko Ono presented her Imagine Peace Tower in Viðey. The permanent installation is a tower of light projected skyward from a white stone monument carved with the words "imagine peace" in 24 languages. The tower was created in honour of her late husband, John Lennon, and is lit every year from Lennon's birthday, 9 October to 8 December, the day he was shot dead.
