The Blue Lagoon is probably Iceland's most famous attraction and has become a must-see for all visitors to the country. It is located on the Svartsengi lava field in Grindavík, between Keflavík International Airport and Reykjavík.
The lagoon was first formed in 1976 as a pool of wastewater from the neighbouring geothermal power plant, and a couple of years later, people started bathing in it when they heard rumours that the mineral-rich waters (a by-product of geothermal energy) are beneficial for a variety of skin conditions. It wasn't long before Blue Lagoon was formally established, and today it offers showers and changing rooms, a spa, an exclusive lounge and a café for visitors.
The milky blue colour of the pool is incredible, contrasting with the black lava landscape. A dip in its silica-rich waters will leave you feeling completely relaxed and with silky smooth skin.
If you would like to add a massage or facial (not included in the standard entrance fee) to your visit to the Blue Lagoon, we recommend you book the optional services well in advance.
