Eskifjörður is a charming coastal town in the middle of the East Fjords. Eskifjörður became an official trading post in 1789 and has been a commercial centre ever since, and the town's culture and industry have long been shaped by the sea. A stroll through the town is recommended, taking in the historic buildings and the docks, and a visit to the Maritime Museum will add great value to the experience. The attractive Randulfssjóhús seamen's hostel has remained unchanged since 1890, showing how the fishing trade worked in the old days. You can even sample the shark and dried fish still produced there.
