Hrafnseyri is the birthplace of Jón Sigurðsson, known as "the pride of Iceland, its shield and sword". A museum dedicated to this hero of the battle for Icelandic independence was opened in 1980. The museum features a peat house, recreating the house in which Jón grew up. There is also an old church dating from 1886.
