Rauðisandur, or "Red Sands", gets its name from the unusual golden red colour of the sand on its beaches. Situated near Látrabjarg on the south coast of the West Fjords, looking south from Breiðafjörður Bay, you will enjoy a breathtaking landscape amidst a pleasant sense of tranquillity, with the Snæfellsjökull glacier visible as a backdrop (on a clear day). The vast sandy coastline is also considered a prime spot for spotting a variety of wildlife, including seals and seabirds, and drive with great caution in this area, as road conditions are sometimes a little more basic.
