The town's heyday was in the early 20th century when it was the centre of Norway's fishing and herring processing industry; in fact, the oldest part of the town was even built in the Norwegian architectural style; history and architecture aside, Seyðisfjörður is known in Iceland as an artistic centre in the country. The city is home to many creative personalities, hosts the residence of many foreign artists and hosts an annual art festival every July called LungA.The famous "Blue Church" concerts are held almost every Wednesday throughout the summer. Also during the summer, there are weekly ferry trips between Seyðisfjörður and Europe.
