Film buffs will recognise Jökulsárlón from blockbusters such as Tomb Raider, Batman Begins and 2 James Bond films: Panorama to Kill and Die Another Day - no wonder why famous directors chose this amazing location as a backdrop! This extremely picturesque glacial lagoon at the southern end of the Vatnajökull glacier is considered one of Iceland's greatest natural wonders. Huge chunks of ice regularly break off the glacier and reach the sea through the glacial lagoon. The view from the shore is unforgettable, but there are also tours through the maze of icebergs by amphibious boat or zodiac to get a closer look at the mysterious blue ice. On one of these excursions you can also get close to the glacier front and see the place where all this magic originates. From land or in the water, you are also likely to see playful seals swimming in the cold waters, much to the delight of onlookers. The water at Jökulsárlón is extremely cold and icebergs can turn over on their own, without warning, so don't go in the water or try to climb up the ice.
