East Iceland's most popular tourist attraction is in Stöðvarfjörður, where you'll find a unique collection of stones in Sunnuhlíð, a private house and garden. The stones are owned by Petra Sveinsdóttir, who started collecting rocks as a child and, as soon as she and her husband bought their first house together, began scouring the surrounding mountains for new pieces for her ever-growing collection.Over 70 years, Petra's mineral collection has grown to the point where it is now one of the largest of its kind in the world. It includes mainly minerals, but also other natural curiosities and a large collection of plants. Although Petra is now deceased, her appreciation for the geology of the area in which she was born and raised lives on in the collection that is beautifully displayed in her personal home and garden.
